Richard is a decendant of both Ojibwe and Dakota ancestry.

He is a third generation pipe maker and sculptor and has been carving pipestone for over thirty years. He quarries in the same 'spotted quarry' as his father George “Standing Eagle” Bryan worked in for over four decades.

Richard has demonstrated and displayed his artwork throughout the United States in museums, and at art festivals, and shows.  His specialties include exact replications of many traditional pipe styles, buffalo effigy pipes and deer hoof war clubs.
